Identity Theft

We are committed to helping you – our member – protect yourself from fraud.  As one way to demonstrate this commitment, we have compiled helpful information to enable you to protect your personal privacy and financial security.  In addition, should you encounter fraud or identity theft, we have also included guidance on how to notify us and others, as appropriate.

As soon as you realize that you may have been a victim of an identity theft, it is important to take immediate action. An aggressive response on your part may help reduce your exposure to financial loss.

Contact your local police department

In the event of identity theft, it is important that you notify your local police department and file a report.  Be sure to request a report number or a copy of the report for your records and, if necessary, to include with any affidavit you may need to provide.

Contact the Federal Trade Commission

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) maintains the Identity Theft Clearinghouse; the federal government’s centralized identity theft complaint database.  We encourage you to contact them and report your identity theft in one of these ways:

Email Fraud, Phishing or Spoofs

The Credit Union will never send an email request asking for you to verify or update personal information or passwords by replying to the email or by going to a website through a link included with the email.  Even if you don’t provide information, by clicking on the link you could expose your computer’s operating system to a virus or to software that enables criminals to “eavesdrop” on your keystrokes and capture your passwords and other confidential information.  If you believe you have received or replied to a suspicious email and provided private information about your account, please contact us immediately at [318-281-2804].

Reminder to our membership

Kraftman Federal Credit Union will never call a member to ask for confidential information such as

username, password, PIN, SSN, or security code on the back of their card. We will never call and

request to log into your personal computer or smart phone. Use caution when providing your debit

USA Patriot Act

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT OPENING A NEW ACCOUNT

To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Section 326 of the USA PATRIOT ACT requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that on personal accounts identifies each person who opens an account. In addition on legal entity accounts, we will require identification on beneficial owners and controlling person.

What does this mean for you?

When you open an account we will ask your name, address, date of birth, and other information that allows us to identify you. We will ask to see your driver’s license or other state issued identification and your Social Security card. We possibly might ask for other needed identification.

IN ALL CASES PROTECTION OF OUR MEMBER’S IDENTITIES AND CONFIDENTIALITY IS OUR PLEDGE TO YOU!

The above requirements also apply to any joint owner or other person added onto any account.
